Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable high safety solidification treatment of high level radioactive waste by adjusting the waste to SiO2, Al2O3, CaO, B2O3, MgO, Fe2O3 and Na2O as principal components and a little other oxides followed by melting and crystallization.
CONSTITUTION: The compsn. of crystallized glass formed by solidification-treating high level radioactive waste is adjusted as follows: by wt., SiO2 30W55%, Al2O3 3W20%, CaO+MgO 3W20% (the ratio of CaO:MgO=0.5W4.0:1), Fe2O3 6W15%, B2O3 0W7%, Na2O≤15% and high level radioactive waste ≤30%. The total amt. of them is 90% or more, and the balance consists of Li2O, K2O, CuO, BeO, ZnO, GeO2, SnO2, PbO, P2O5, As2O3, Sb2O3, SeO2, Bi2O3, FeO and ZrO2 each ≤5% and 10% or less in total.
