Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain hollow fibers suitable for blood dialysis devices, ultrafiltration, and reverse osmosis, by controlling the osmostic pressure inside and outside the fibers with a coagulation bath containing a suitable amount of a salt to prevent the formation of pinholes in the fiber walls.
CONSTITUTION: A spinning solution comprising a cellulose derivative dissolved in an organic solvent is extruded through an annular slit into a filamentary material, and a core liquid containing a salt in a concentration enough to cause phase separation is introduced into the hollow part of the material at the same time. The fibers are then introduced into a coagulation bath comprising an equeous solution of a given amount of a salt.
