Appearance, reddish brown powder; elementary analysis (as hydrochloride), C 48.45%, H 6.67%, N 15.85%, O 21.47%, Fe 3.69%; solubility, easily soluble in water, soluble in methanol, insoluble in ethyl acetate, acetone, etc.; color reaction, Remew reaction positive, ninhydrin reaction negative; stability, relatively stable in an acidic conditions, unstable in neutral or alkaline conditions.
USE: Antibacterial agent having strong activity to gram-positive bacteria.
PROCESS: For example, Streptomyces vinaceus SF-2012 strain (FERM-P No. 4616) is cultured in a liquid medium under aerobic conditions, and the objective substance is absorbed from the filtrate with activated charcoal, etc. The substance is eluted with a 1:1 mixture of water and acetone, and purified to obtain a basic SF-2012-L substance. As the substance is unstable in the form of the free base, it is usually isolated in the form of hydrochloride.
