Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to produce coenzyme Q11 as a metabolite of microorganisms industrially advantageously, by using bacteria belonging to the genus Pseudomonas.
CONSTITUTION: Strains, e.g. Pseudomonas N842, which belong to the genus Pseudomonas and have the ability to produce coenzyme Q11 (a factor effecting the electron transfer in vivo with the pharmacological action against various diseases) or their variations, e.g. Pseudomonas N842-M16 which is a variation of Pseudomonas N842, are cultured aerobically in a nutrient medium comprising sugars, e.g. glucose, an organic acid, e.g. lactic acid, an alcohol, e.g. methanol, as a carbon source, and an organic substance, e.g. peptone, an inorganic substance, e.g. ammonium sulfate, as a nitrogen source, and vitamin, at a pH 4W8 and 20W37°C, for 2W10 days. Bacterium bodies separated from the culture by centrifugation are extracted to give the objective substance.
