Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the size and weight of a single-phase driver and increase the starting torque of a compact multi-phase induction motor, by rectifying single-phase AC power, sequentially switching the rectified power through thyristor groups and applying the switched rectified power between each phase terminal of armature coils and a neutral point to generate a rotating magnetic field to cause a torque.
CONSTITUTION: Single-phase half waves are sequentially applied to the first thyristor groups 401, 402, second thyristor groups 403, 404 and third thyristor groups 405, 406 in such order depending on gate trigger signals which appear on the output terminals 607A, 607B, 607C of a gate circuit 3. As a result, currents sequentially flow through the armature coils 501A, 501B, 501C of an induction motor 5 to generate a rotating magnetic field. The squirrel-cage rotor 503 of the motor is rotated by the rotating magnetic field.
