Abstract
PURPOSE:To precisely measure the range by a range detector by detecting the range to be measured on the basis of timing component in the detected signal to thereby produce high signal to noise ratio at the detector. CONSTITUTION:The reflected light beam on a target to be measured is incident to the lens 7 in a receiving system disposed at predetermined distance from a light emitting system at an angle corresponding to the range to the target. The light beam coming from infinite distance may correctly pass a slit 13 at the moment when one plane of a prism 8 forms an angle of 45 deg. with respect to an optical axis 6 and is incident onto a photoelectric converter 11. At this time the light beam passed through a light guide 14 transmits a plane parallel with the prism 8 and is incident onto a standard signal generating photoelectric converter 17. The time difference between the time when the output is produced from the converter 11 and the time when the standard signal is generated depends upon the range to be measured. Since the range to be measured can be detected thus together with the timing component in the detected signal, it can obtain high signal to noise ratio to thereby detect the range precisely.
