Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a high polymer useful for waste water treatment, easily dispersible and soluble in water without causing insanitary condition in preparation, by polymerizing an aqueous solution of cationic vinyl monomer dispersed in a hydrophobic organic solvent, followed by formation of particulates.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 50W90wt% of an aqueous solution of a cationic vinyl monomer or its mixture with other vinyl monomer is dispersed in (B) a hydrophobic organic solvent by using 0.01W5wt% based on B of a surfactant with a HLB of not more than 10 and polymerized by a water-soluble initiator to form a particulate polymer with a particle diameter of 0.1W5mm suspended in the solvent B. The polymer is removed, if necessary. A monomer shown by the formula (R1 is H or CH3; R2 and R3 are 1W4C alkyl, etc.; R4 is H, 2W4C hydroxylalkyl, etc.; A is O, NH; B is 1W4C alkylene; X- is anionic ion, may be cited as cationic vinyl monomer.
