Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a culture bath with a high oxygen transfer speed and utilization efficiency, by dividing the bath into two parts having different functions (fungus body multiplication and aging).
CONSTITUTION: A multistage culture bath comprising one or more perforated partition plates 5, and the draft tubes 9b therein is connected to the column culture bath having the draft tube 9. Air blown from the inlet 2 into the tube 9 is mixed vigoroously with culturing liquid while rising in the tube 9. The rising gas-liquid mixture is checked, mostly forced out with the lower most plate 4, and lowered outside the tube 9.
