Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a highly active silica-alumina catalyst having a small surface area, noncrystalline property, a high activity, and a high selectivity by heating an aqueous raw material mixture containing a silica source, an alumina source, a free hydroxide source, and a phenyltrimethyl ammonium compound.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous raw material mixture, containing a silica source, e.g., silica powder, a silicate, etc., an alumina source, e.g., Al2(SO4)3, sodium aluminate, etc., an inorganic salt as a free hydroxide source, e.g., KOH, Mg(OH)2, etc., a pheyltrimethylammonium compound, and water in proportions of SiO2/Al2O3= 1W200, OH-/SiO2=0.01W0.5, H2O/SiO2=10W100, and R2O/Al2O3=0.1W3.0 (R is phenyltrimethylammonium), is heated at 80W250°C for 5hrs to 50 days and then filtered to obtain silica-alumina hydrates, and then the silica-alumina hydrates are washed, dried at 50W150° for 1W100hrs, and lastly baked at 250W900°C for 1W50hrs.
