Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the title glass exerting no influence on laser beam transmission by forming oxide glass of a low hydroxyl ion content by hydrolysis using heavy water. CONSTITUTION:Si alcoholate such as Si(OCH3)4 or Si(OC2H5)4 is hydrolyzed using heavy water in an acidic state to convert hydroxyl ion OH<-> contained in glass into ion OD<->. The resulting sol soln. is allowed to gel and converted into a strong gel by dehydration condensation while drying, and the gel is sintered at about 1000-1200 deg.C to form a transparent glass body.
