Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the dyeability and bulkiness of dyed polyester fibers, by drawing and heat-treating undrawn modified polyethylene terephthalate fibers obtained from a sodium sulfoisophthalate and isophthalic acid under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: A modified polyethylene terephthalate obtained by copolymerizing 3W6 mole % of 5-sodium isophthalate and 3W15 mole % of isophthalic acid as acid components is spun into undrawn fibers, which are drawn at 70°C or above, preferably 75W95°C, and a draw ratio of 75W95%, preferably 80W90% of the breaking ratio, then heat-treated at 140W200°C, preferably 160W190°C, to give the objective fibers which are dyeable at 110°C or below without using a carrier and have a shrinkage in boiling water at the dyeing temperature of 1W9% and in hot air at 180°C of 8W25%.
