Abstract
PURPOSE: To have sufficient throat depth even in the case of thin-walled pipes and perform welding of good accuracy by inserting part of the pipes into the annular grooves of the protruding bottom parts provided to the lower part of the pipe holes of a pipe plate and performing TIG welding stepwise.
CONSTITUTION: Protrusions 11 conforming to the wall thickness of pipes 2 are provided to the lower part of the pipe holes of a pipe plate 1 and further annular grooves 12 are provided to the bottom part of said protrusions 11. Part of the pipe 2, e.g., about 1W2mm in the case of a thin-walled pipe, is inserted into this groove 12. Next, while, e.g., Ar gas is being flowed, the root pass TIG penetration welding 15 of not using filler metal is performed by the arc from a W electrode 14 which is automatically revolved by a shaft 13. Thereafter, with the protrusion 11 as filler metal, second-pass TIG welding is performed, whereby the weld zone 16 having a sufficient throat depth is obtained. As a result, the weld zone having a sufficent throat depth is obtained even with a thin-walled pipe of wall thickness about 4mm; in addition, the position setting of the pipes and pipe plate may be performed with good accuracy and ease.
