Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the reception of a projected light thereby to make it possible to effect the detection in high sensisivity by arranging the light emitting side of a light source and the receiving side of a photoelectric converter at or in the vicinity of the focal point of a lens.
CONSTITUTION: For instance, both a light source 11 and a photoelectric convertor 12 are arranged either in the vicinity of the focal point F of a lens 13 or in the vicinity of the center axis of the lens 13. The light emanating from the light source 11 is changed by the lens 13 into a parallel beam toward a rotary member to be measured. The reflected light, especially, most of the directly reflected light is condensed again through the lens 13 so that it reaches the receiving side of the converter 12. Since, in this way, the axes of projection and reflection are aligned according to that construction, the percentage of detection of the directly reflected light which is condensed by the lens 13 can be remarkably increased. As a result, the quantity of the received light is increased in comparison with the projected light so that the detection of high sensitivity can be performed.
