Abstract

PURPOSE: To secure a simple and high-accuracy detection for the defect of the insulating spacer with a low level of the test voltage by filling the insulating oil of a fixed specific dielectric constant between the insulating spacer and the test electrode near the spacer and then applying a high electric field to the spacer.
CONSTITUTION: Cone-shaped insulating spacer 6 or the like which gives insulation between high-voltage shield 2 and the earthed low-voltage shield is attached to test tank 3a, and at the same time electrodes 10 and 11 are distributed near spacer 6 to secure the same potential as shields 2 and 5 each. Then insulating oil 13 featuring the dielectric constant of 2W6 is injected to tank 3a, and thus the area between spacer 6 and electrodes 10 and 11 is filled by the insulating oil featuring nearly the identical dielectric constant to spacer 6. And with application of the voltage between tank 3a and conductor 1a connected to shield 2 and if the defect such as the air void or the like occurs at spacer 6, the corona discharge is produced between electrodes 10 and 11 due to the high electric field. In such way, the defect of the insulating spacer can be detected in a simple and high-accuracy way and with a low level of the test voltage.
