Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable a steady changing of printing dot sizes even if there is the change in enviroment condition and power source voltage, by changing the polarity of a recording signal which is applied between a needle-electrode and a control- electrode.
CONSTITUTION: For example, a printing dot at a negative polarity is determined as a state 1, a printing dot at a positive polarity as a state 1/2, and a non-recording dot as a state 0. The state 1 picture signal unit applies a negative voltage from a negative recording power source 8 to a multi-needle recording electrode 4 and a positive voltage from a positive recording power source 9 to a control-electrode 5 respectively, and forms a printing dot of the negative polarity having a large diameter. A state 1/2 picture signal unit applies the positive voltage and the negative voltage to the electrodes 4 and 5 respectively, and a printing dot of the positive polarity having a small diameter can be formed. Furthermore, a state 0 picture signal unit turns off all switches and non-recording may result. A charge pattern is thus produced on a dielectric layer, and subsequently is developed and fixed.
