Abstract

PURPOSE:To present a thermal printer of which the function of the head is not lowered due to dust attachment, by providing means for removing the dust attached to a transfer medium before a thermal head picks up dust. CONSTITUTION:When this thermal printer makes transfer recording of recording paper, a transfer medium, i.e. printing tape, PT having a heat-melting material on a heat- resistant support layer is placed on the paper, a thermal head TH is placed on the back of the laydr, and the material is melted by the heating of the head TH. Cleaning rollers CL1 and CL2 are provided to clean the no-ink side of the tape PT. A material such as felt, which is liable of absorbing dust, is provided on the surface of the rollers CL1 and CL2. The rollers CL1 and CL2 are used as means for cleaning the tape PT and maintaining a proper tension thereof.
