Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform correct A/D conversion sufficiently following the change in the absolute black level of video signal, by setting the reference level signal to digitize the video signal from pick up elements in response to the white and black both levels.
CONSTITUTION: The video signal 1 in photo electric conversion from the pick up element is branched into two signals, which are respectively fed to the reference signal generating circuit 2 for white level follower and the circuit 3 for black level. The circuit 2 follows the white level, that is the peak value of video signal depending on the time constant determined with the charge and discharge circuit 21, and since the circuit 3 is inputted to the charge and discharge circuit 32 via the inversion circuit 31, it follows the peak value at polarity conversion, i.e., black level. By dividing the reference signal following to the white and black level thus obtained at the division circuit 4, the signals from white to black level, e.g., signals A0 to A15 of 16 steps can be obtained, and correct A/D conversion can be made based on it.
