Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the discoloration of the extract of Lithospermi Radix added as a pharmacologically active natural colorant to a cream composition, by adding gamma-oryzanol to the cream composition. CONSTITUTION:A cream composition composed of (A) 0.5-5wt% of gamma-oryzanol which is ferulic acid triterpene alcohol obtained from rice bran, (B) 1-3wt% of the extract of Lithospermi Radix (composed mainly of naphthoquinone dyestuff), and (C) the base composition of cream (e.g. oil such as olive oil, a moistening agent such as glycerine, a surface active agent such as polyoxyethylene cetyl ether, and an alkali such as KOH). The discoloration of the extract of Lithospermi Radix added as a colorant can be prevented by the addition of the oryzanol. gamma-Oryzanol has growth-accelerating, local blood flow increaing, and sebum secretion increasing actions, and Lithospermi Radix is useful as a remedy for scald, and a colorant. The extract can be prepared by extracting the Lithospermi Radix with water, aqueous organic solvent, ether, etc. The cream composition is expected to have the effect of keeping the smooth skin.
