Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide an arrangement for oil pan, in which oil pan is divided into two sections and lubricating oil is made to flow selectively into one of these two sections depending on the temperature of lubricating oil, whereby it is enabled to raise temperature of lubricating oil promptly at the time of starting engine in cold days. CONSTITUTION:Lubricating oil is once collected in receptacle 1 provided at an upper portion of oil pan. The receptacle 1 is formed at its central portion with apertures 1b, to which is connected inlet 5a of a valve means 5 consisting of thermo-valve actuated in response to the temperature of lubricating oil. The body 7 of oil pan has at its central portion a partition plate 9 engaged with vertical partition 3, and chambers on the opposite sides of the partition 3 are communicated with each other by oil passage 11. In such an arrangement, lubricating oil is dropped at first onto receptacle 1 and then enters into inlet 5a of valve means 5. Since valve body 5b is closed when the temeprature of lubricating oil is low, oil flows into tank portion 13 from outlet 5d and drawn via strainer 31 to pump, from which oil is distributed to various portions to be lubricated. Thus, temperature of oil is raised rapidly. When the temperature exceeds a certain level, valve body 5b is raised upward against the force of spring 5f by the function of temperature-sensitive member 5c, so that oil flows into the other tank portion 15.
