Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A water-soluble peptide glycan having the following characteristics: (A) soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol, acetone, etc.; (B) molecular weight, 5×103-1×105 (gel permeation); (C) constituent amino sugars and amino acids, glucosamine, alanine, etc.; (D) constituent non-peptide glycan component, organo-phosphorus compound, etc. (E) UV spectrum, absorption edge of ≤230m; (F) IR spectrum, amide-absorption peaks at 1660 and 1550cm-1, OH-absorption peak at 1060cm-1; (G) mitogenic activity and immunological adjuvant activity, positive; (H) average chain length of sugar residue, 4 as N-acetylglycosamyl-(1,4)- N-acetylmuramic acid.
USE: Remedy and prophylaxis of malignant tumor.
PROCESS: The compound can be prepared by (1) culturing bacteria belonging to streptomyces genus in a medium, (2) mechanically disintegrating the cultured bacterial cells, (3) treating the crude cell walls obtained as a precipitate with protease, (4) treating the treated product with lysozyme, and (5) separating and purifying the objective compound.
