Abstract

PURPOSE: To regenerate inactivated active carbon catalyst for removing sulfur oxides by eliminating waste water problems and also by lessening its chemical consumption by treating it at 200W600°C in a NH3-containing gas.
CONSTITUTION: The inactivated active carbon catalyst for removing sulfur oxides present in waste gases is heat treated at 200W600°C in a NH3-containing gas to decompose effectively sulfuric acid or the compounds of sulfuric acid and NH3 which are responsible for the inactivatinon of the catalyst and thereby to regenerate the activity of the catalyst. The presence of NH3 enables one to suppress greatly the chemical decomposition of the catalyst. The method is also effective in the regeneration of active carbon supporting metal catalysts having denitrification activity and can eliminate troubles with the treatment of waste water and the corrosion of reacting tube.
