PURPOSE:In a friction mechanism wherein a friction member is pressed against a mating friction member under a low face pressure, to prevent the burnout of the friction member and the generation of clutch noises without use of any lubricant by forming the mating friction member of a copper plate or copper alloy plate. CONSTITUTION:A flywheel 2 is connected to a shaft 1, and a mating friction plate 3 having a copper plate or copper alloy plate 9 thereon is fitted to the end face of the flywheel 2. With a current flowed in a solenoid 5, a movable plate 7 spline- fitted on a aupport shaft 6 is slid leftward by the electromagnetic attractive force, a friction member 8 inserted in the plate 7 comes into coupling with the copper plate or copper alloy plate 9, and a shaft 10 is rotated. The friction member 8 is made of asbestos-based friction material consisting of asbestos, thermosetting resin, and other ingredients. By this constitution, the mechanism can be used under dry friction condition using no lubricants such as grease.
