Abstract

PURPOSE: To eneble the captioned electrode of good durability and current efficiency suited for production of HOCl for pasteurization by covering the conductive base material such as of Ti or Ti-Zr alloy with the composition which is composed of Pt or Pt-Ir alloy and IrO2 and whose total Ir amount is specified.
CONSTITUTION: The aqueous solution containing soluble Pt compound (e.g. H2 PtCl6) and Ir compound (e.g., IrCl4) is coated and dried on the conductive base material of Ti or Ti-Zr alloy so as to enable the covering layer having the undermentioned composition to be obtained. Next, this conductive base material is fired in the presence of O2 at 500W650°C until the rate of conversion to IrO2 becomes 80% or over. This operation is repeated until the covering layer of a desired thickness is obtained. Namely, the covering layer is composed of Pt or Pt-Ir (10 atom % or under) and IrO2 and yet its total Ir amount occupies 10W60 atom % of the entire part of the composition.
