Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the captioned product at a high yield and high selectivity by electrolytically oxidizing chain terpene base compound in a weak basic (weak acidic) base aqueous medium containing halogenide of alkali (earth) metals or ammonium halide.
CONSTITUTION: Chain terpene base compound (e.g., dehydro-linalool) concentration about 0.1W0.01mol/l is electrolytically oxidized at 0W80°C, terminal voltage 1W10V, current density 2W30A/cm2 by using Pt or graphite electrode in a weak basic (preferably pH9 or under) or weak basic (preferably pH6 or over) containing halogenide of alkali (earth) metals (e.g., NaBr) or ammonium halide. If with this method the aqueous solvent is maintained at weak acidity, the corresponding halohydrine body is obtained as main product and if it is held at neutrality or weak basicity, the epoxy body is mainly obtained.
