Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the electric short between a ferro magnetic substance thin film and a conductor for bias magnetic field and a magnetic shield layer dependent upon conductor dust on the medium contact face and reduce considerably noise by removing a part of the face of the head opposite to the medium by a desired depth.
CONSTITUTION: Lower shield layer 2 of a magnetic thin film, lower insulating layer 3, ferro magnetic substance thin film 4, leading-out conductor 5, upper insulating layer 6, conductor 7 for bias magnetic field, and upper magnetic shield layer 8 of a magnetic thin film are laminated on substrate 1, thereby constituting a magnetic head. In the medium contact face of the magnetic head opposite to the magnetic recording medium, medium-side exposed faces of layer 2, thin film 4, conductor 7 and layer 8 are removed by a desired depth dimension so that they may be prevented from contacting with the magnetic recording medium, and removal parts 2a, 4a, 7a and 8a are formed. As a result, medium contact faces of layers 3 and 6, conductor 5 and substrate have a protruded state.
