Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a shaft sealing apparatus, capable of preventing leakage of fluid from around a turning shaft, by feeding sealing air into a seal box tangentially of the seal box and supplying the sealing air to sealing surfaces under the state that pressure of sealing air in the seal box is substantially equal over the entire circumference of the same.
CONSTITUTION: By the side of chamber 1 in which a gas mixing fan for boiler or other is placed, an annular chamber 7 surrounding a turning shaft 4 is defined by casing 2, shaft sealing plate 3 and expansible joint 6. By the side of this annular chamber 7, an annular passage 22 is formed by seal box 14, and labyrinth rings 17, 17' and fins 18 serving to restrict air flow are disposed in the annular passage 22. In such an arrangement, sealing air is introduced into the seal box 14 from air supply pipe 15 tangentially of the passage 22 as shown by arrow 21 in the drawing. Sealing air is then passed in passage 22 in the direction shown by arrow 24 and supplied to labyrinth fin 18 from outlet 20 under the state that pressure of the sealing air is substantially equal over the entire circumference of the passage 22.
