Abstract
PURPOSE: To adsorb metal vapor and discharge gas and prevent staining of filaments by disposing a sawbuck pump element to the portion of the throttle member between an electron gun and an intermediate chamber.
CONSTITUTION: The inside of an intermediate chamber 12 is evacuated to a high vacuum by way of an exhaust conduit 20 by the exhaust system of the entire part of the device. When current is supplied to an activating heater 15 through input terminal 18 following to this, then activation of the sawbuck pump element 16 is accomplished. Next, when the current supply is stopped, the pump action by the adsorption and diffusion action of the sawbuck pump element 16 is started. Hence, the metal vapor flow, discharge gas, etc. being introduced through a main valve 11 are adsorbed by the sawbuck pump element 16 and staining of a throttle member 17 and electron gun filament 6 are perfectly suppressed.
