Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of corner transverse cracks, etc. by using one or more inductors for induction heating or the like in the continuously cast slab passage area and heating the surface or corner parts of the slab to a suitable temperature then performing leveling of this slab. CONSTITUTION:Coil terminals 5, 6, coil 4 and U-form inductor iron cores 2 provided integrally with insulating materials 7 at both end parts are provided with a slab corner part 1 in-between. the inductors 2 are secured to the leveling machine inlet side section of the continuous casting unit by the supports not illustrated and is provided in the slab passage corresponding area. Its vertical and width directions are adjusted and set to a specified gap (20mm or under) by a drive motor. Current is supplied to the coil 4 and the corner part 1 is controlled to the preset temperature by the induced electromotive force formed in the closed loop of the iron cores 2, air gap 8, corner part 1, air gap 8' and iron cores 2. As compared to conventional methods, the number of corner cracks is reduced to 1/5 and the mean crack lengths thereof are drastically reduced to 1/10.
