Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a stereo AM broadcasting modulation circuit which gives a receiver compatibility, stereophonic and monophonic functions, by adding a multiplier circuit, differential circuit, square-law circuit, and balancing circuit to a conventional modulator. CONSTITUTION:The product of sum signal (s) and difference signal (d) is found by multiplier circuit 7 and the inversion input of the 1st differential circuit 8 is applied to obtain output Vd. Difference signal (d), on the other hand, is squared by square-law circuit 9 and applied to balancing circuit 10 to obtain output Vb. Then, output Vd of the 1st differential circuit is applied to PM modulator 5 to obtain output Vp. Further, a difference between PM modulation output Vp and balancing modulation output Vb is obtained by the 2nd differential circuit 11 and then applied to AM modulator 6, where AM modulation is performed by sum signal (s), so that required broadcast output Vo(t) can be obtained. This Vo(t) is multiplied by itself and detected to find the low-frequency component, thereby obtaining a numeral with secondary distortion D and crosstalk reduced greatly. A conventional monoaural-only receiver is therefore capable of receiving a stereo broadcast without substantial deterioration.
