Abstract

PURPOSE:To supply a proper quantity of heat to a continuously moving metal strip by arranging gas spray nozzles for floating the strip so that the distance between the nozzles and the strip can be regulated. CONSTITUTION:While metal strip 6 is passed through heating unit 2 and cooling unit 17 of heat treating apparatus 1, burners 15 and fans 10, 21 are worked simultaneously. At the regular state strip 6 is heated with high temp. gas sprayed from nozzles of plenum chambers 7, 7' in unit 2, the heated strip is cooled with low temp. gas such as air sprayed from nozzles of plenum chambers 19, 19' in unit 17, and strip 6 is held at a floating state in units 2, 17. In case the moving speed of strip 6 is lower or the thickness is smaller, chamber 7' is lowered. In case the moving speed is higher or the thickness is larger, chamber 7' is raised. Thus, the distance between the nozzles of chamber 7' and strip 6 is regulated.
