Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an acetylene derivative having a terminal triple bond, in high yield, under mild conditions, by the cross-coupling reaction of an allenyl compound with an organic aluminum compound in the presence of a catalytic amount of a copper compound.
CONSTITUTION: An allenyl compound of formula I (X is halogen), e.g. bromopropadiene, is made to react with an organic aluminum compound in the presence of a catalytic amount of a copper compound at room temperature to afford an acetylene derivative of formula II (R is organic group). The organic aluminum compound is the one having Al-R bond, pref. a compound of AlR3 or LiAlR4. When the organic lithium aluminum compound is prepared by the hydroalumination of an olefin in an ether solvent, the product is used without separating from the reaction mixture, to the reaction with the allenyl compound and the catalyst. The catalyst is, e.g. CuCl.
