Abstract
PURPOSE: To position one of track groups in the servo region by the sector servo method, thereafter record the information following a desirable track, thereby shorten the access time of the head without deteriorating the magnetic recording density.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of data tracks in the recording data regions 18 to 18h are divided into a plurality of track groups each of which comprises a plurality of tracks. In the positioning servo information regions 19a to 19h, a first servo information 22 for positioning the magnetic heads 10 to 17 and second servo information 23 for following the track of which the magnetic head is selected are recorded in one of the track groups. Then, the magnetic head is positioned on desired track groups based on the first servo information and thereafter follows a preferable track on the second servo information. In this manner, the access time of the head can be shortened without lowering the magnetic recording density.
