Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a copolymer having introduced useful functional groups in an aqueous heterogeneous system without using organic solvents, by reacting a copolymer having specific component with functional groups.
CONSTITUTION: Functional groups, e.g. azido, thiocarbamate, thiophenyl groups, are reacted and introduced into a copolymer having the component of formula I: (X is halogen atom or chloromethylphenyl group; Y is pyrrolidone or acid amido group; a is 80W96mole% and b is 4W20mol%) to give a copolymer of formula II: (Z is introduced functional groups; c is mole%).
EFFECT: The pyrrolidone groups near the halogen atoms promote the attack of azido or dithiocarbamate ions on polyvinyl chloride or polychloro-methylstyrene which is not subject ot the nucleophilic reaction in water solvent.
