Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve the reduction in screw-dwon force by giving bending to the material and producing shearing force in the position just near the inlet side and outlet side of rolling rolls.
CONSTITUTION: In giving bend to the material S with different speed rolling rolls 1, 2 whose peripheral speeds having the relations of V2>V1, small-diameter rolls 5, 7 and their backup rolls 6, 8 are provided just near the inlet side and outlet side of the rolls 1, 2. When the strength of the rolls 5, 7 is insufficient, backup rolls 6', 8' are used to add strength. As a result, the shearing forces r3, r4, r5, r6 by the samll-diameter rolls 5, 7 are added in addition to the shearing forces r1, r2 acting upon the material S owing to the conventional varying speed rolling, and this considerably increases shearing effect and makes a large contribution to the decrease in screw-down force. There is no restriction in the combination with varying speed screw-down rolls and it is also possible to achieve the decrease in screw-down force by giving strong bending from the outside.
