Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent bite defect and mis-rolling in plug mills by disposing a pair of cylinder (arc)-form (non)driven right and left vertical rolls behind the plug mills so as to align the pass lines of both and shaping the oblong at the pipe end part. CONSTITUTION:Non-driven vertical rolls having arc-form hole dies are disposed behind the return roll stand of the seamlss steel pipe plug mills in such a manner that their pass line aligns to the pass line of the plug mills. The pipe end part 4 which has been rolled by the plug mills to a horizontally oblong circle is screwed down and shaped from the right and left by a pair of the vertical rolls 5 to a circular shape. The right and left chocks 6 containing the vertical rolls 5 are contained laterally slidably in the outer frames 7 which support screw-down load. The chocks 6 are connected to the outer frames 7 by screw-down devices 8 and the vertical roll gap is so controlled by the devices 8 that the pipe end 4 assumes the specified shape. The roll gap is made approximately equal to the caliber opening length of the plug mills.
