Abstract

PURPOSE: To treat sludge at low cost by arranging a treating tank provided with a sludge-charge tube, a gas and slag discharge apparatus and an induction heating apparatus to recover a large quantity of fuel of good quality.
CONSTITUTION: Sludge 2 is introduced through a conveyer 3, a tank 4, a heat exchanger 11 and a charge tube 5a into a refractory conductive treating tank 5, and heated at a temperature of 800 to 2000°C by means of an induction heating coil 8. The sludge is thermally decomposed to produce a combustible gas containing a large amount of H2, CO, etc. The gas maintained at a constant pressure is introduced through an exhaust pipe 56, a regulating valve 10 and the heat exchanger 11 into a gas tank. Inorganic slag is discharged through a discharge tube 5C. A large quantity of the recovered gas is fuel of good quality which provides the required power for the above treatment. The recovered slag can be used ror paving materials, building materials, etc. It is possible that this process can be operated automatically. This process is suited to treat a large quantity of sludge.
