Abstract

PURPOSE: Dehydrated sludge of magnesium hydroxide is fired thereby to provide an excellent adsorbent for removing or reducing COD and color from waste water.
CONSTITUTION: Sludge of magnesium hydroxide by-produced when preparing magnesium hydroxide from seawater is dehydrated and dried at normally 110°C for 12 horus, than fired at 200 to 800°C, preferably at 400 to 800°C for about one hour to provide adsorbent. The dehydrated and dried magnesium hydroxide sludge may be mixed with water crushed slag from blast furnace in weight ratio of 75:25 to 25:75 to be followed by firing at 550 to 800°C for at least one hour.
