Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a nickel-zinc battery having stable and high reliability and long life in cycles at various temperatures by mixing caustic potash of specified specific weight and lithium hydroxide of specified quantity to thereby produce an alkaline electrolyte to thereby widen the using temperature range of the battery.
CONSTITUTION: A plate group is formed by spirally winding a sheet-like cathode 1 containing zinc and zinc oxide as main components and sintered nicket anode 2 with separator layer 3 interposed therebetween in a manner that the outermost periphery becomes the cathode 1. A battery is produced by the steps of coating the plate group with a cylindrical insulator 4, inserting the group into an anode terminal plated with nicket on the inner wall thereof as metallic cylindrical container 5, and sealing the port with a port sealing plate 8 of cathode terminal. The separator layer 3 employs liquid retentive strong alkaline resistant non-woven fabric to thereby reserve electrolyte. The alkaline electrolyte in such a battery contains aqueous caustic potash solution of 1.3 of specific weight and lithium hydroxide of 10g per one liter of the caustic potash solution, and filled in the battery in the amount of 0.5∼0.6ml per 1 AH of total theoretical capacity of the cathode.
