Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the gas evacuating efficiency of a glass tube at gas evacuating time by introducing high pressure gas utilizing rare gas introducing passage, removing residual evacuating tube after sealing the tube, and then replacing the high pressure gas in the passage with rare gas.
CONSTITUTION: The gas evacuating tube of a glass tube 3 is held at a rare gas introducing side gas evacuating head 1 of a gas evacuating machine to complete the respective steps upon one revolution of a rotary disk 20. When gas evacuation is started from the evacuating heat of other end, rare gas is introduced from a manifold 5 through stationary and movable side center valves 6, 8 and a gas evacuating tube 4, and the tube is sealed. Then the tip of the tube 4 is removed by a burner 12. The residual gas evacuating tube is blown out by high pressure gas from a high pressure gas source 14 through the valves 6, 8 and the head 1. The residual atmospheric gas in the pipes 9, 16-the heat 1-mercury dropping unit 2 is replaced by the rare gas via the valves 6, 8. Since new glass tube is not necessary to degas at gas evacuating time as above, it can enhance the gas evacuating efficiency of the glass tube.
