Abstract
PURPOSE: To readily prevent the production of thickness deviation of welded pipes based on drawing by locally force-cooling the neighborhood of the forge-weld zone since forge-welding roll process to drawing process in a welded pipe manufacture process.
CONSTITUTION: The both edges in the width direction of a hoop a being blank are heated to a temperature higher than that of other portions and the both edges are butted downward to pipe-form by a forming roll 1. This is then forge-welded with forge-welding rolls 2 to form a forge welded pipe b. At this time, cooling water is sprayed toward the outside forge-welding line from the spray nozzles 8 at the top of the water feed pipings 7, 7' provided across from immediate behind the forge-welding rolls 2 up to a drawing roll 3 and across from drawing rolls 4, 6. The neighborhood of the forge-weld zone with the forge-weld line of the welded pipe b as a center is forcefully cooled and since the outside diameter of the pipe is drawn by drawing rolls 3 thru 6 where the temperature differences of the portions of the neighborhood of the forge-weld zone and other portions of the base metal have no longer temperature differences, the thickness increase near the forge-weld zone is reduced and the production of thickness deviation prevented.
