Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare an organic sulfur compound, easily, in high yield, without emitting ill odor, by the direct reaction of an organic compound having an eliminable halogen group with a mercapto-introducing reagent comprising a nucleophilic reagent obtained from a Grignard reagent and sulfur.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is prepared by reacting (A) a nuclephilic reagent prepared by the reaction of a Grignard reagent of formula RMgX (R is aliphatic, aromatic, araliphatic group; X is halogen) with sulfur, with (B) an organic compound having an eliminable halogen atom (e.g. halogen-substituted hydrocarbon carboxylic acid, etc.), thereby substituting the halogen atom with the aliphatic, aromatic or araliphatic mercapto group. The objective compound is, e.g. 3-(p-tolythio)-propionic acid.
EFFECT: Non-irritant to the skin. Harmless to working environment and the health of workers.
