Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic material for magnetic head by providing a special heat treatment for Fe-Si system alloy obtained by a quenching process to set its crystal diameter at a value of 0.01 to 0.1 mm. CONSTITUTION:A material containing 92 to 94 wt% of Fe and 8 to 6 wt% of Si is molten in a crystal case 1, and is pressurized by an Ar gas and then jetted from a nozzle. The material is then supplied to a roll making a rotation at a speed of 30 m/sec. and is thereafter quenched by a magnetic roll face to be formed into a sheet having a thickness of 0.02 to 0.2 mm. Subsequently, a strain is removed by processing the sheet at a temperature of 700 to 1200 deg.C for two hours and the thickness of a fine crystal particle is set in the range of 0.01 to 0.1 mm, suitable for obtaining a good magnetic characteristic. According to such a method, the material is freed from the strain in writing and the noise caused in sliding can be reduced also mechanical work be efficiently achieved. When the cooling speed is set less than 10 deg.C/sec., the crystal particle is grown over 0.1 mm in diameter to reduce the coercive force. On the other hand, a diameter of the crystal particle less than 0.01mm is not preferred because the coercive force becomes excessively large.
