Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a unit which traces the contour line of a character pattern for the purpose of character recognition by storing a character pattern signal, read out by an optical character read, in a two-dimensional memory.
CONSTITUTION: In two-dimensional memory 1, the two-dimensional pattern of an input character is stored with white and black areas made to correspond to binary values, "0" and "1", and when access to the address of it is attained, five binary outputs, point C(i,j) and vertically and horizontally adjacent points C, U, D, L, and R, are extracted. Memory 1 and the address interlock and a traced point is registered in two-dimensional memory 2.
