Abstract
PURPOSE:To ensure the safety of cell, with a concentration held of electrolyte also when in a stoppage of operation, by making the air in an oxidant compartment room consumed oxigen and filled with nitrogen, with an external short-circuit circuit at the time of cell stoppage. CONSTITUTION:To a fuel gas compartment room 4 are connected a hydrogen feed tube 7 for supplying hydrogen and a hydrogen discharge tube 8 for drawing out hydrogen, and in each of the tubes 7, 8 are provided valves 9, 10. To an oxidant compartment room 5 are provided an air feed tube 11 for supplying air and an air discharge tube 12 for drawing out air, and in each of the tubes 11, 12 are provided valves 13, 14. In a cell 1, are provided in parallel an external load circuit 17, made working during the cell operation, and an external short-circuit circuit 18, used during the cell stoppage. When in a stoppage of operation, with the load circuit 17 made off and the short-ciucuit circuit 18 on, hydrogen within the fuel gas compartment room 4 and oxygen in air within the oxidant compartment room 5 are consumed, and the oxidant compartment room 5 is filled by nitrogen in the air.
