Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve the automation of the welding process of pipeline laying and the higher reliability of welding by expanding the pipe from its inside, forming the first pass weld beads from the outside then finish-welding the inside surface while welding the outside.
CONSTITUTION: In the first welding stage a, the pipes 1 to be welded to themselves are expanded and centered by inside pipe expanding clamps 6 and the first pass weld beads having sufficient strength to hold the joint are formed through gas metal arc welding using an outside welder 7. Next, in the second b and subsequent stages, the pipe inside is welded by plasma torch 4. Even in this second b and subsequent stages, the welding of overlapping runs for the second and subsequent passes of the outside is accomplished in succession. This method enables the operations to be simplified and the stable weld beads to be obtained.
