Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a profile control system wherein when the stylus of a tracer head reaches a machine position region represented by machine position information corresponding to the sudden change position of the contour of a model, the profiling speed is reduced thereby to curtail the processing time and improve the processing accuracy.
CONSTITUTION: A stylus ST comes into contact with a model MDL, and a displacement composite circuit DG produces as output a displacement signal, signals Vn and Vt in the normal direction and tangential direction, respectively, being obtained in speed operating circuits ARN and ART, and a command speed signal being applied to a gate circuit GC, thus a servo motor being driven. Upon this occasion, the sudden change of the model contour is detected in each of divided regions DYl through DYn by a detection circuit MD, and speed reduced regions DDl through DDn are ser. From the comparison between the current position of the machine and the speed reduced regions, a reducing signal DEC is supplied through a data output device DO to a tangential speed operating circuit ART, and the profiling speed is reduced. According to this arrangement, since the feed speed is reduced only at the suddenly changed part of the model contour, the processing time is reduced and a profile processed article can be obtained with high accuracy.
