Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the highly pure title compound which is white crystals useful as a dental cement, by reacting eugenol sodium salt with a zinc salt, or reacting eugenol with zinc alcoholate in an alcohol.
CONSTITUTION: Eugenol zinc salt is prepared either by reacting (A) 2 moles of eugenol sodium salt obtained by reacting sodium alcoholate with eugenol in an alcohol, with (B) 1 mole of a zinc salt (e.g. ZnCl2), or by reacting (A') 2 moles of eugenol with (B') 1 mole of zinc alcoholate obtained by reacting sodium alcoholate with a zinc salt in an alcohol, e.g. methanol.
