Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the use of a single main return pipe to discharge water from a number of air washers, at least some of return water branch pipes are made of flexible pipe and enclosed by water pressure of the main return pipe and check valve is provided downstream the flexible return pipe.
CONSTITUTION: Cold water sprayed from spray nozzle 44, after exchanging heat with air, falls on the water receptable 14 causing its water level to rise up. The flexible pipe 30 passing within the tank 3 contains water with pressure of head H1 higher than that in the tank 3 connected to the main return pipe 13. This causes the flexible pipe 3 to expand, permitting water in the water receptacle 14 to pass through the return branch pipe 16 to the main return pipe. When the spray stops, the main return pipe 18 has a pressure different for different altitude of the washer 10 installation, which is either higher or lower than atmospheric pressure. When higher than atmospheric pressure, the check valve 34 is closed. If lower than atmospheric pressure, the flexible pipe 30 is depressed in the tank by head H2 of the main return pipe 18.
