Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A linear chlorine-containing polyethersulfone of formula I (wherein X and Y are H or Cl, where at least one of them is Cl; Q is directly bonded part, -O-, -S-, or 1W6C bivalent aliphatic or alicyclic hydrocarbon group; m is 0 or 1; n is 10W1,000).
USE: A flame-retardant, hot water pipe, interior material for car, gear, etc.
PREPARATION: 98W105mol of at least one aromatic tri- or tetrahalide of formula III is added, at once to an anhydrous mixture of 100mol of at least one dialkali metal salt of dihydric phenol of formula II, with an inactive, highly polar solvent, at 0W140°C, and then the resulting mixture is thermally treated, to obtain a chlorine- containing polyethersulfone, excellent in flame-retardancy, heat resistance, transparency and water resistance.
