USE: An intermediate material for cyclopentenolones as an intermediate for agricultural chemicals and prostaglandins for medicines.
PROCESS: A furylcarbinol compound of formula II is reacted in a mixture of water and an organic solvent, in the presence of an acid, to give the compound of formula I.
